OB Team Education
Mile Bluff is prepared for any emergency that may arise during your pregnancy.
Our commitment to safety ensures that you will always receive the highest
quality care. Here are some of the safety measures we have in place:
-
Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO): All of our physicians, midwives, and L&D nurses are certified in ALSO,
with several of our physicians serving as certified instructors. Mile
Bluff is a national training site for the ALSO course, where we train
healthcare providers from across the state and country every year.
-
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP): All of our physicians, midwives, and L&D nurses are certified in NRP,
with some certified as instructors. We host several NRP courses annually
for our employees and healthcare providers from Wisconsin and Minnesota.
-
Drills and Simulation Sessions: Our team participates in at least one monthly session focused on responding
to potential obstetrical or newborn emergencies.
-
Debriefs: After any obstetrical or newborn emergency, our team conducts a debrief
to review what went well and identify opportunities for improvement, ensuring
we can perform even better next time.
-
Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Lab Work, and Emotional Support (STABLE): STABLE is a program designed to support our team in managing the post-resuscitation
and pre-transport care of newborns with complications. It ensures that
our staff provides up-to-date, efficient, and evidence-based care to our
most vulnerable patients. This approach also allows transport teams to
"load and go," minimizing the time needed on-site to prepare
the infant for transfer.
-
Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM): The EFM certification program focuses on monitoring the baby’s heartbeat
alongside the mother's contraction patterns. The program includes three
levels—basic, intermediate, and advanced—tailored to varying
skill levels. All of our OB RNs are required to complete training at the
intermediate level, with some opting to pursue advanced certification.
This ensures early and accurate identification of changes or concerns
during labor and delivery.
