As our communities continue to age, the diagnosis of dementia is becoming
more and more common. Along with their caregivers, the individuals who
are diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia may find
it difficult to navigate through the community as dementia symptoms occur
in public more frequently.
Mile Bluff Medical Center and the ADRC of Eagle Country invite the public
to increase their understanding and awareness of dementia by attending
Dementia Live on Tuesday, January 15.
Dementia Live is a hands-on program that simulates dementia’s sensory symptoms
and immerses participants into the complexities of everyday life with
dementia. Participants wear specialized gear that modifies sensory abilities
and are asked to complete a set of tasks. The activity is followed by
a wrap-up conversation that focuses on feelings and sensitivity awareness
and suggestions for how to better care for those with dementia.
Dementia Live gives everyone the opportunity to gain insight into the complicated world
of dementia. It leads to a greater understanding of the daily struggles
those with dementia face. With more understanding, caregivers and community
members can act with empathy and compassion toward those with dementia.
Dementia Live sessions will be held Tuesday, January 15 from 9 am to 3:30
pm at Mile Bluff Medical Center in Mauston. Limited half hour time slots
are available. For more information and to register, call 608-847-1495
or visit the
events calendar.
