His tall stature and bright pink jacket aren’t the only things that make
Virgil Erickson stand out from the crowd. Virgil has been a very active
participant in Mile Bluff’s volunteer program for nearly ten years. When
he’s on duty you will either find him busy making copies, or in the
volunteer office collating papers for charts. The emergency room is where
he offers up most of his services, but Virgil has also helped out at the
front desk, in cardiac rehabilitation and in the audiology department.
After being raised in Sparta, he spent 30 years working in Milwaukee. He
returned to this area after his retirement and currently resides in
Arkdale. While he was in Milwaukee he spent nine years volunteering in
the emergency room at St. Michael’s Hospital, so he fit right in when he
joined the volunteer program at Mile Bluff.
Mary Crowley, ER Director, had this to say about Virgil, “He is a smiling
contribution to our day. Virgil is always pleasant and we really
appreciate his efforts and contributions to the ER.” According to Mary,
Virgil prepares about 600 chart packets for her department each month,
among other things. It is easy to see how this dedicated volunteer
regularly donates more than 100 hours of his time to Mile Bluff each year!
Having activities to look forward to each week – such as volunteering at
Mile Bluff – is one of the ways Virgil keeps from becoming bored, and is a
key factor to his longevity as a volunteer. His favorite part about
volunteering at Mile Bluff is the friendly people he interacts with.
In his spare time, Virgil enjoys reading, and in his younger days he was
an avid runner.
Mile Bluff is proud to have Virgil as a part of the team and congratulates
him as the February Volunteer of the Month! |
