Dr. Sabey provides maternity care at Lake Delton

Margaret stays independent at home thanks to Mile Bluff home health

By Kathy Behnke

Freedom, the right to continue to live at home in independence, the importance of maintaining a high quality of life - even in the face of major health issues...all of these are reasons individuals in the area choose Mile Bluff - Hess Home Health to care for them.

In honor of National Homecare Month, Margaret Ann Curtis of Mauston shares her story:  “I broke my hip and walk with a walker.  Several years ago I also had abdominal surgery, and it required me to have a painful shot twice a month.  I stayed at Mile Bluff - Fair View Nursing Home while I recovered from my surgery, and I received physical therapy there.  That is how I first became familiar with Hess Home Health.”

Margaret is thankful for the program, stating, “It means the difference between me staying independently in my own home, and living in a nursing home.”

She has utilized Mile Bluff’s home health services for the past five years, and can say nothing but positive things about the care she receives, “The staff is wonderful!  They visit three times a week, give me my bath, help me get dressed and keep my nails trimmed.  They do important tasks for me that enable me to stay in my home.”  Margaret continued to say that the most beneficial part of having homecare is that, “The nurse, Donna, sees me twice a month.  If there are any issues or concerns with my health, she contacts my doctor immediately.”

Margaret explains that not only does having homecare services benefit her, but her family takes comfort in knowing she is in good hands, “It puts their minds at ease to know that I’m being well looked after by Hess Home Health.”

When asked if she would recommend Mile Bluff’s homecare to others, she answered with a resounding “Absolutely, without a doubt!”

Mile Bluff - Hess Home Health offers skilled nursing care, physical therapy, medical/social services, occupational therapy, insurance claims services and more.  The program is available to those who are homebound in Juneau, Adams, Jackson, Monroe, Sauk and Vernon counties, and services are covered by Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance, Medicare HMO, and are available through private pay as well.
