LATISSE® What is it? It is a prescription treatment used to grow eyelashes, making them longer, thicker and darker. How does it work? It is believed to affect the growth phase of the eyelash hair cycle by increasing the length of this phase, and by increasing the number of hairs in this growth phase. How do I apply it? The solution is a once-a-day treatment you apply to the base of your upper eyelashes each evening. Do not apply on your eye or to the lower lid because excess hair growth outside the treatment area may occur. How soon will I see results? Users may see results at eight weeks, with full results at 12 to 16 weeks. The growth is gradual, happening overnight, over time. What happens if I stop using it? Your eyelashes are expected to return to their previous appearance over several weeks to months. What are the possible side effects? The most common side effects are an itching sensation in the eyes and/or eye redness. Other, less common side effects may occur, which typically take place on the skin close to where the solution is applied, or in the eyes. These include skin darkening, eye irritation, dryness of the eyes, and redness of the eyelids.
BOTOX® What is it? It’s a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (in people 18 to 65 years of age). It is also used to enhance the fullness of lips and cheeks. Botox can also be used to treat excessive sweating, with results lasting nine months to a year. This is typically covered by insurance. How does it work? It works by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles. This reduces muscle activity that causes moderate to severe lines to form between the brows. When will I see results? Within days, you may see a marked improvement in the moderate-to-severe frown lines between your brows. Lines continue to improve for up to 30 days, and results can last for up to four months. Individual results may vary. Is it painful? Discomfort is usually minimal and brief, and the entire procedure takes approximately 10 minutes. Most patients are in and out of the physician’s office without downtime following treatment. What are the possible side effects? Side effects associated with the injection include localized pain, infection, inflammation, tenderness, swelling, redness, and/or bleeding/bruising. See botoxcosmetic.com for a full list of possible side effects. Will I still be able to make facial expressions? Although the results are visible, a treatment will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you’ve “had work done.” The muscle activity that causes frown lines between the brows is temporarily reduced, so you can still frown or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases between your brows. What if I choose not to continue treatments? The frown lines between your brows will gradually return to the way they looked before treatment.
JUVÉDERM® RESTYLANE® & PERLANE® What are they? These are all injectable gel dermal fillers that help to instantly restore your skin’s volume, and smooth away moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds like your “smile lines” (the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth). What do they do? They temporarily add volume to facial tissue, and restore a smoother appearance to the face. When will I see results? Most patients need one treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing that lasts for six months up to a year. Are these painful? Injections may cause some discomfort during and after the injection, however, the smooth consistency of the gel, and the fineness of the needle used, reduce injection discomfort. How long does treatment usually take? The injection process takes only about 15 minutes. You’ll also need to allow time to consult with your doctor prior to treatment. What are the possible side effects? Most are mild or moderate in nature, and their duration is short (lasting a week or less). The most common side effects include, but are not limited to, temporary injections site reactions such as redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration. As with all skin injection procedures there is a risk of infection. Consultations for age spots and other wrinkles are also available!
