Delton Family Medical Center run/walk draws crowd by Kathy Behnke Scroll down for pictures! The cold and rainy weather conditions didn’t put a damper on the fourth annual Delton Family Medical Center Healthy Family Fun Run/Walk. On Saturday, May 8, over 125 adults, nearly four dozen children, and more than 20 canines participated in the event – the best turn-out to date! As usual, the kids’ half-mile run/walk kicked off the morning of fun. Before heading out on the course, Delton Family Medical Center physical therapist, Mike Rawlings, led everyone in some stretching exercises to loosen up their muscles. The children ran the route with enthusiasm, and ten-year-old Alex Hadac was first to cross the finish line with a time of 3:23. The first place girl finisher was Lindsay Cunningham, 8, with a time of 3:35. All children who participated were awarded bags filled with goodies – including gold medals for their efforts! The festivities continued with the 5k. Participants ranged from families with dogs on leashes and children in stollers, to avid runners who were ready to race. This year’s top finisher was Vince Volkey with a time of 18:30. The second and third place runners – Rob Levitz and Tim Phalen – came in less than ten seconds behind Vince. Danae Cunningham was the first lady to cross the finish line, with a time of 21:37, followed by Julie Olson (22:03). The run/walk organizers would like to recognize a number of local businesses that helped to make this year an overwhelming success. Friede & Associates – a general contractor out of Reedsburg – sponsored the event, and Wal-Mart provided refreshments. A special thank you goes out to them, as well as to the others who donated prizes and their time: Sports Impressions, the Wisconsin Dells and Lake Delton police departments, Mile Bluff Medical Center’s Rehabilitation Department, Knucklehead’s, Mt. Olympus, the Dells Army Ducks, Noah’s Ark, the Big Cheese Magazine, Upper Dells boat tours, Dells Jet Boats, the Original Wisconsin Ducks, Pizza Villa, McDonalds, Dells Dental and Mueller Sports Medicine, Inc. It is the generosity of these organizations – along with the participants who showed up in support of healthy families – that enables the Delton Family Medical Center to make a financial contribution to the Wisconsin Dells Kops for Kids program. In an effort to continue improving the event, participants were asked what could be done to help make the run/walk even better next year. To top off the list of suggestions, beautiful weather was requested. No one can promise that it will be sunny and 70 for the event in 2011, but it is guaranteed to be fun for the whole family – no matter what the weather turns out to be.
