To keep up with the expanding service line, there have been some additions to the rehabilitation staff, including a new manager.  Mile Bluff Medical Center is proud to introduce Marlene Rosenberg, physical therapist, as the new Director of Rehabilitation Services.   She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan, and has quite an extensive background in physical therapy.  Before starting at Mile Bluff on June 15, she was employed for 19 years with Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital in Michigan as a physical therapist. Prior to that, she worked at a private practice for two years.

Marlene made the move from Michigan to Wisconsin this spring with her husband and one of their three children.  “We are living in Elroy right now.  My husband is working in the area and enjoying it.  We also have one daughter that moved with us, she is 17; our other children are 26 and 23 years old.  They were all really excited for me to have this opportunity to come here.”

Right now, Marlene primarily sees outpatients and has extensive experience in all areas.  She says practicing physical therapy is rewarding because of the ability it gives her to aid people in getting their independence back.  “I feel like I make a difference in helping patients regain their lives, and that is one of the reasons I decided to become a physical therapist.”

When asked what she thought about Mauston and the surrounding communities she had this to say, “Mauston is different than where we came from; it is much smaller, but we love it here.  I am looking forward to a little bit quieter lifestyle than what I was used to.”

She continued to say that she chose to practice physical therapy at Mile Bluff for just that reason.  “I saw potential and a good group of people that works at Mile Bluff.  We have access to top-of-the-line treatment procedures.  I also saw a community that was open and welcome to new faces.  In comparing it to other places I have worked, the medical center is excellent.  I wouldn’t have left a job of 19 years to come some place less.  There were 7,000 employees at the last hospital I was at, and Mile Bluff is right on par with it.”

Marlene also has plans for expanding the department in the future.  “I would like to keep bringing on more team members and developing additional programs.  Currently, I am working on a fall prevention program to help identify those individuals who are at a high risk for falls.  Ultimately we want to continue to grow and reach out to the community.”

She went on to say, “I want people to know that we are continuing to bring in new therapists with different specialties and skill sets with some fresh ideas so we can best meet the growing needs of the patient population. We are here and ready to serve people.”

Patients are seeing positive results due to these changes as well, according to Marlene.  “As far as outcome aspects, our patients are getting back to their lives in a very prompt manner.  It is so enjoyable working with the attending physicians one-on-one.  This close communication is vital in high-quality patient care.”

The technology available to the rehabilitation staff is also changing how patients are treated.  Marlene explains, “With our new computer system, we are able to get a bigger picture of the patients’ needs, helping us formulate better plans of treatment based on the specifics of their injuries or ailments.  We are able to access MRI and X-ray reports within seconds.  That is one of the key advantages to using a hospital-based therapy department.”  These types of services would not be available to you at a private practice.

Besides having a new director and implementing the technology changes, there has also been the addition of other staff members in the past few months.  Physical therapists Dawn Hallwood, Mike Rawlings, Kim Harbort and Brett Achterberg have recently joined the rehabilitation team at Mile Bluff as well.

With all of the high-quality treatment procedures available for the growing staff, there is a solution for many ailments.  If you are living with an old knee injury that affects your every-day life, or headaches that interfere with your daily activities, Mile Bluff’s rehabilitation professionals can help!  Therapists see patients at Mile Bluff’s Mauston and Lake Delton locations.
