Mile Bluff Medical Center’s Rehabilitation Department adds new occupational therapist

By Amanda Emery

In February, Mile Bluff Medical Center welcomed occupational therapist Kim Pitzen to the rehabilitation staff.  The recent UW - LaCrosse graduate says she is very excited to have the opportunity to work at Mile Bluff, “When I began looking for a place to practice, I was hoping to find a facility where I would have the opportunity to work with a variety of patients at various stages of recovery; I have found that at Mile Bluff.  I also have the ability here to grow in my specific patient care interests [neurological disorders].”

Kim continued to say that she is looking forward to having the opportunity to help expand the Rehabilitation Department with programs to meet the growing needs of Juneau County and the surrounding areas.  She commented, “I would like to look into a drivers’ rehabilitation or drivers’ screening program.  If there is indeed a need for something like this, I would like to make it available.”

There are two main things that drew Kim to Mauston - the staff at Mile Bluff and the community.  “When I was interviewing, I had the opportunity to meet everyone in my department.  My co-workers are all very friendly and the environment is very cohesive to work in.  The members of the occupational therapy team at Mile Bluff really compliment each other; our areas of interest are different, and that really helps us better serve the community.”  She continued, “The other drawing point was the ‘small town’ atmosphere.  Mauston is a small town, and Mile Bluff is a close-knit organization, but we still have the ability and technology to serve a large and varied population.  I really enjoy having the best of both worlds at Mile Bluff.”

When not at work, Kim is busy planning a wedding.  “I am recently engaged and we have set an August, 2011 wedding date.”  She likes to spend her free time at her parents’ cottage in northeast Wisconsin, and enjoys visiting her family and friends in her hometown of Plymouth, Wisconsin.  In the summer months Kim can be found swimming, fishing, water skiing and wakeboarding.  During the winter, she and her fiancé like to go snowboarding, ice fishing and snowmobiling.

Kim is currently accepting new patients who have:

•  limitations following a heart attack or stroke

•  orthopedic problems with the hand, wrist or elbow

•  birth injuries

•  learning setbacks or developmental disabilities

•  cognitive issues

•  arthritis of the hand, elbow or wrist

•  neurological issues or brain injuries

She treats individuals five days a week at Mile Bluff Medical Center in Mauston on an inpatient and outpatient basis.  She also sees residents at Fair View Nursing Home in Mauston, and Crest View Nursing Home in New Lisbon.  Please join everyone at the medical center in welcoming Kim Pitzen to the rehabilitation team!
