Dr. Sabey provides maternity care at DFMC by Katie Mead Pregnancy and childbirth can be a time of unknowns for any mother. Not every pregnancy is the same, but Dr. Kim Sabey of the Delton Family Medical Center is prepared to answer any question and deal with any situation associated with the childbirth process. “With each pregnancy and delivery, I am amazed at the miracle of delivery and what women’s bodies can do,” explains Dr. Sabey. “I really enjoy seeing a healthy mom holding a healthy baby in her arms after delivery.” Katie Schroeder, a mother of three from Hustler, started seeing Dr. Sabey when she was pregnant with her third child, Caleb. “I wanted a female doctor,” explains Katie. “Doctor Sabey was very nice and caring. She was willing to follow my plan. I knew that if I had a problem, I could always call her and she would get back to me.” As an obstetric (OB) physician, Dr. Sabey keeps in mind that an OB must have compassion, understanding and appreciation of the challenges that pregnancy can place on a mom and her family. With children of her own, Dr. Sabey feels like her personal experiences have helped her in the OB field. “I know how things like simple heartburn can interfere with your daily activities and your sleep when you’re pregnant. I have dealt with the challenges of helping an older child accept a sibling; and I also understand that breast feeding can be difficult.” Katie Schroeder found comfort in knowing that Dr. Sabey is a mother herself. “Her children are about the same age as mine,” says Katie. “From my perspective, I would rather have someone who has been in the same situation. I knew that she would be able to relate to the difficulties I was having, and wouldn’t think I was odd for feeling the way I felt, because she had probably gone through the same things too.” Mile Bluff Medical Center prides itself on building long-lasting, caring relationships with patients and their families. Like all of the doctors at Mile Bluff, Dr. Sabey gets know her patients, and takes time to listen to them. “Doctor Sabey remembers you,” recalls Katie. “I know our community isn’t that big, but it means a lot when I see her in public and she can remember me and my children.” “Mile Bluff OB physicians care for and deliver our ‘own’ patients,” explains Dr. Sabey. “We all enjoy getting to know our patients during prenatal visits, being part of the delivery, and seeing mom and baby after delivery. I am also one of the providers that can perform cesarean sections (c-sections) and tubal deliveries too.”
