A lesson Mile Bluff’s Audiology Director Ann Raabe learned early on in life is that, “We often receive more than we give when we take the time to care.” Ann and 53 other healthcare employees from across the state were honored by the Wisconsin Hospital Association’s (WHA) annual Employee Pride Recognition Program. The program is designed to celebrate the healthcare workforce and recognize its “truly amazing” contributions to the health of the community, according to WHA President Steve Brenton. “People who work in hospitals are among Wisconsin’s most dedicated and valuable employees. It takes special people to care for others, and our communities are richer, safer and healthier places to live because of these professionals,” Brenton said. “Whether they are on the front lines, or supporting those who deliver patient care, all healthcare employees help improve the health status in the communities where they live and work.” To be chosen for this honor, Mile Bluff employees submitted essays describing what led them to choose a career in healthcare. A committee then reviewed the stories, and selected Ann to receive the award. An excerpt from Ann’s winning essay stated, “As an audiologist, I have the privilege of helping improve peoples’ quality of life through better hearing. These people are not only my patients, but are the friends and neighbors that comprise the rural community I live in. Whether detecting a hearing problem that can be medically managed; helping a dizzy patient get back to work and the hobbies they enjoy; fitting hearing aids to a child born with hearing loss who later becomes valedictorian of her graduating class; or providing amplification to someone who has been unable to hear their grandchild’s voice, I continue to be the one that gains the most from the experience. And, who wouldn’t want to have a job like that?!!” May 9 through 15 is Hospital Week, and Mile Bluff is pleased to take this opportunity to announce that Ann Raabe is Mauston’s recipient of the 2010 Wisconsin Healthcare Employee Pride award.
