Rosine named Mile Bluff’s 2009 Rural Health Ambassador

The Rural Wisconsin Health Cooperative (RWHC) recently bestowed its 2009 Rural Health Ambassador Award to Sharon Rosine, a registered nurse at Mile Bluff Medical Center in Mauston.  She is one of only 19 healthcare professionals in the state who received the honor this year.

The award recognizes healthcare employees at RWHC hospitals who have gone above and beyond the call of duty in promoting their respective organizations, while making significant contributions to rural health.  Each recipient demonstrates a history of fostering positive communication and relations within the hospital's respective service area by:  serving on community boards/service organizations; taking advantage of volunteer or public speaking opportunities; and supporting community health activities beyond the scope of the hospital.

Sharon has been a member of Mile Bluff’s staff for nearly 40 years.  According to her supervisor, Sue Horkan, “Sharon has been a role model all her career as a staff nurse, as well as a charge nurse in the OB/Surgical Department.  She treats staff and patients with the utmost respect, approaching situations with a positive attitude.  Wherever help is needed, Sharon makes herself available as able.  Strong work ethic and patient-advocate describe her practice of nursing.”

Outside of her work at Mile Bluff, Sharon shows her dedication to helping others by providing nursing services to her church and to the New Lisbon High School marching band.  She and her husband have also reached out and participated in a missionary trip to an underserved population.

Sharon’s co-worker Mary Crowley stated, “I have always admired and respected Sharon.  Years ago she was a role model for balancing work, home and community activities while maintaining her high-quality and dedication to professional nursing.  She continues to be a beacon of strength and professionalism.  When I think of the vocation of professional nursing, I think of Sharon Rosine.

To celebrate her achievement, Mile Bluff held a reception in Sharon’s honor Wednesday, May 13.   Many of her co-workers, friends and family members attended the event to celebrate, and show their support and appreciation for all Sharon has done to better the community.

Larry Clifford from RWHC presented her with the award, and Mile Bluff’s president and CEO Jim O’Keefe took a moment to personally thank Sharon for her dedication.  In accepting the award she stated, “I truly love what I do, and I am very humbled to receive this.”
