Sports Medicine Programs

Athletic Training at Mile Bluff Medical Center

At Mile Bluff Medical Center we believe that to serve you and our community better, we must go above and beyond traditional medical services. That's why we provide you with ways to put "life into your years" - along with adding years to your life.

The Certified Athletic Trainers (ATCs) in our Sports Medicine Program offer a personal, caring touch along with peace of mind that comes from knowing your health needs are being met.

ATCs design Personalized Wellness & Fitness Programs geared to meet your special needs and work with local High School Athletic Programs.  Athletic Trainers do more than tape ankles and assess injuries, they also work with dietitians, occupational therapists, physicians and physical therapists to insure that you receive treatment just right for you.

Your active schedule requires you to be an athlete in your daily life. In order to stay active and have the strength and energy that you need to do your job, enjoy hobbies or keep up with your children or grandchildren, you need proper and frequent exercise.


Our ATC's Athletic Programs for Schools Offer

Mile Bluff Sports Medicine offers comprehensive athletic training services to area schools.  These services include both daily school visits and event coverage.  Our certified athletic trainers work with student athletes to prevent or minimize the effects of injury, provide psychological support and foster effective communication between the athletes, coaches and the medical community.  They also assist with the design of sport specific year-round training programs.  Providing daily services is the personal touch that makes this program a success.  

 

Current contracts include Mauston, Hillsboro, Wonewoc, New Lisbon and Wisconsin Dells schools.

 Meet Our Athletic Trainers

The Athletic Trainers are certified by the National Athletic Training Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) and are licensed to practice within the State of Wisconsin.

 

Darcy Gaston, M.S., LAT

Originally from New Lisbon, Wisconsin, Darcy graduated from University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 1992 with a Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training & Physical Education Teaching. She completed her Master’s Degree in Health & Human Performance with emphasis on Sports Psychology and Sports Management at Iowa State University.  Before coming to Mile Bluff, Darcy was the Head Athletic Trainer at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, and the University of Dubuque, Iowa.  Darcy is the Athletic Trainer at the Wisconsin Dells Schools, and previously at Hillsboro and Wonewoc-Center. She is also the Athletic Training Supervisor here at Mile Bluff Medical Center.  Besides her school responsibilities, and outpatient rehabilitation, Darcy also teaches Wet & Well Classes at the Park Oasis in Mauston and Wellness Class at Terrace Heights.  Her outside interests include snowmobiling, skiing, boating, camping, hunting and spending time with her husband, son and daughter.

 

Shae Ellefson, MS, LAT, PES

Shae is originally from Baldwin, Wisconsin, Shae graduated in May 2004 from the University of Wisconsin- EauClaire with a Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training.  Shae assists with outpatient rehabilitation, employee body mechanics, teaches wellness classes at Fairview and Crestview, and provides Wet & Well in Mauston.  Shae is the Athletic Trainer at the New Lisbon schools.  In her spare time, Shae enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter and son, sports, crafts, reading and outdoor activities.

 

Jason A. Nuttall, LAT

Jason is a 2000 graduate of Portage High School, and a 2004 graduate of Ripon College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Exercise Science – Athletic Training with a Biological Sciences Minor.  Before joining us in Mauston, Jason was the Athletic Trainer at Wautoma and Berlin High Schools.  Jason teaches wellness classes at Terrace Heights Retirement Community and Wet & Well in Necedah, and is also the Athletic Trainer for Mauston High School and Weston High School.  In his spare time, Jason enjoys cooking, baking, and spending time with friends and family.

The Certified Athletic Trainers in the Sports Medicine Program at Mile Bluff Medical Center are trained to help you get fit, stay in shape and prevent and rehabilitate injuries. 

If you decide to participate in an athletic and/or personalized wellness & fitness program, you can expect that:

During your initial visit (one session) with an athletic trainer, you will: mComplete physical fitness testing
mDiscuss exercise programs
mSet goals
mEstablish an exercise program

During Follow-Up Visits (Four Sessions) you will:

mRedefine goals  
mReassess your fitness level
mDiscuss any concerns  
mChange your exercise program as needed
mExercise

General Public: 1 Session: $39.00
  5 Sessions: $174.00
Mile Bluff Employees: 1 Session: $26.00
5 Sessions: $116.00

Wet & Well

Aquatic Fitness is for all ages and fitness levels.  Classes are offered Monday & Wednesday mornings at the Best Western Park Oasis in Mauston, and Tuesday & Thursday mornings at the Oak Grove Community Center in Necedah.
